Before publication
- Names, titles, figures, dates and quotes are checked against a primary source by the reporter, then re-checked by an editor.
- Statistics carry the issuing body and the reporting period in the story text.
- Images and video are checked for origin and date; file photos are labelled as such in the caption.
Rating claims
Standalone fact checks state the claim, who made it and when, the evidence examined, and a plain-language verdict. We avoid unexplained labels and always show the reader the underlying evidence.
When a check fails
If a published claim does not survive a later check, we apply the corrections policy immediately rather than waiting for a complaint.
